If your initial HIV test is positive, we understand that this can be a stressful and emotional time. However, it’s important to remember that early diagnosis and treatment can help you live a long, healthy life with HIV.
Confirmatory Test – The Western Blot: If your initial HIV screening test is positive, a second blood sample will be sent for a confirmatory test called the Western Blot. This test provides a more definitive result and typically takes about 2 weeks to process.
What the Western Blot may show:
- Negative: Great news! However, if there was a recent risk of exposure, we recommend repeating the antibody test in 3 months.
- Indeterminate: This means the results are unclear. We will likely repeat the antibody test or suggest the P24 Combo test in about 1 month to ensure accurate results.
- Positive: If the Western Blot confirms HIV infection, our doctors will guide you through the next steps. You will be referred to the Communicable Disease Centre (CDC) in Singapore or an alternative treatment center at a major tertiary hospital.
It’s crucial to know that there are highly effective medications available to manage HIV and help control the virus. The key to achieving the best outcomes is seeking treatment and regular follow-up care as early as possible.
Remember, a positive HIV diagnosis is not the end. With proper treatment, many people with HIV can continue to lead healthy, fulfilling lives and maintain a good quality of life.
- Negative: Great news! However, if there was a recent risk of exposure, we recommend repeating the antibody test in 3 months.
HIV PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a highly effective preventive treatment for individuals at high risk of contracting HIV. PrEP is a medication that significantly reduces the likelihood of acquiring HIV when taken consistently. Wonderhealth Screeners offers:
- Personalized PrEP Counseling: We help assess your risk and determine whether PrEP is suitable for you.
- Ongoing PrEP Care: Once on PrEP, regular follow-up appointments ensure you remain on track with your medication and stay HIV-free.
- Comprehensive Support: We offer guidance on lifestyle changes, safe sex practices, and regular testing while on PrEP to enhance prevention.
If you’ve had potential exposure to HIV through unprotected sex, needle sharing, or other high-risk activities, PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) can reduce the risk of HIV infection. PEP must be started within 72 hours of exposure for maximum effectiveness. At Wonderhealth Screeners, we offer:
- Emergency PEP Services: If you’ve had an exposure risk, contact us immediately for rapid evaluation and treatment.
- Comprehensive Post-Exposure Care: Our healthcare professionals guide you through the PEP regimen, ensuring that you receive the correct medication to prevent HIV infection.
- Support and Follow-Up: After completing the PEP regimen, follow-up testing and care are essential to confirm that HIV has not been contracted.
